- Acne scars.
"I have really bad acne scars is there anyway I can get rid of them?"
A question I receive almost daily. Generally acne scars come from incorrectly treated acne, generally from pills, creams, ointments or skincare which involves harsh chemicals, it can also be from popping/picking pimples, which is a big no no.
For quite some time now, I believed pure oils were the best way to treat acne scars, and I was wrong! After some intense research it occurred to me that acne scars are unlike others, some are like holes in the skin, and others are just very noticeable red or brown patches, it then occurred to me that because they are different, they really do need to be treated differently. Acne scars are more like pigmentation spots, then an actual scar a fancy name for this would be ‘post inflammation pigmentation’ Because it’s actually pigmentation that you are treating, your going to need lightening, whitening and brightening products, these are fairly new but a lot of brands are now coming out with them.
I won’t just be recommending natural products, I’ll be recommending a few normal products.
Ultraceuticals Ultra C Diminish Cream.
Designed to effectively fade darkness and hyperpigmentation! Their products are ultra-strong so you only ever need the smallest amount so in the end the expensive price tag pays off. This cream should only be applied to the area’s of which it’s needed, not all over the whole face (unless you have acne scars everywhere!)
Juice Beauty Green Apple Antioxidant Serum.
From one of my favourite brands out there, is this antioxidant serum, does an amazing job at fading pigmentation, sun spots and acne scars and it’s natural and light on the skin. If your on a budget you could try Juice Organics Antioxidant Serum or Brightening Serum, these are not my top recommendations as they are a tiny bit sticky, Juice Organics is developed by Juice Beauty as a cheaper alternative.
Clinique Even Better Clincal Dark Spot corrector.
This is one of the latest products designed to effectively fade dark spots, and acne scars, one of the products which has had the most hype over it, and there’s a reason why… It works!
John Plunkett Super Fade Original Face Cream. 'Super Fade', seriously strong stuff there is no doubt about it, designed to fade sun spots, and all other types of hyperpigmentation, containing strong amounts of one of the most lightening ingredients out there, this product is bound to give you results. (please be aware this is actually a pharmacy medicene/cream so please be careful when using it, read more here)
With each and everyone of these products, there’s two things you need to do.
- One, be patient. Fading scars is quite a long process and they aren’t going to complete disappear over night, you’ll need to strictly keep it up for a few months at least.
- Two, protect. I can’t stress this enough, if you aren’t already make sure you are protecting your skin from the sun, especially if your in the process of fading pigmentation, not keeping your skin protected from the sun with a sunscreen of SPF 30+ (those of you in America anything above SPF 50 is equivalent.) will basically undo all your hard work, so it’s super, super important to do so, Jurlique and Natural instinct do some amazing SPF 30+ sunscreens which are not overly greasy.
- Products that are designed to even out the skin tone will also be very beneficial to acne scars, I recommend a skincare routine that’s done with natural cleansers and moisturisers, generally this helps to even out the skin tone very well and create a radiant glow, what more could you ask for? Juice Organics Brightening system is amazing and highly recommended by me to you all, acne scars or not!
