Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick Review
I’m not a fan of reapplying my lipstick and whilst a few tips on keeping it in place can make just about any lipstick stay in place for a little longer a long wearing formula doesn’t ever go astray. When I think lip products and drugstore the first brand that comes to mind is Revlon. Known for their popular tinted lip butters and just bitten kissable balm stains and loads of other products, some of which are more popular then high end cult products.

Revlon claims the lipsticks:
- Provide One-step colour and have ultra-comfortable wear for up to 16 hours;
- Instantly moisturise using a combination of Shea Butter, Vitamin E and Aloe;
- Apply evenly with full, creamy colour coverage and leave lips feeling smooth, conditioned and comfortable;
- Don’t feather or bleed;
- Were voted as lightweight by 92% of women, 95% said lips feel smooth, 95% said lips felt comfortable, 95% said colour doesn’t feather or bleed.
Some of the claims I can stand by in a heartbeat, others I just can’t…
Upon application these lipsticks are super-duper creamy and feel amazing on the lips and there isn’t a sign of dryness in sight (unlike some other lipsticks on the market!) They glide onto the lips with ease, almost like butter and feel pleasant and moisturising.
One of my biggest concerns with lipsticks are the scent/flavour. I dislike anything over powering, even fruity, sweet scents but I really, really despise lipsticks that taste like I’ve just drunk a bottle of dish washing liquid, so the fact that these lipsticks have almost no scent at all is a huge plus for me. A+ Revlon.
The staying power on these lipsticks is just… Amazing. You tell me you can find a longer lasting lip product in the drugstore and I’ll tell you that you believe pigs can fly. These babies will last even through eating and drinking. Whilst there is a little fading in the center of the lips a simple smack of your lips and the colour is straight back to normal. A good lip/eye makeup remover (or some olive oil!) is a must to get all the excess off.
The Revlon Ultimate Suede Lipsticks are housed in a pretty standard lipstick container, with a clear lid (makes storing lipsticks a heck of a lot easier) but the caps are a real pain to remove; so difficult that I’ve had them fly around the house due to me having to forcefully open them once or twice!
The lipsticks pigmentation isn’t the best I’ve come across and unlike other Revlon lipsticks they are slightly sheer (not as sheer as the lip butters but they lack full opacity) especially when you compare them to Wet N Wild Mega Last Lipsticks (which I love by the way!) I feel like the pigmentation could be better since this is a lipstick. The shade range though is fantastic (20 Shades) and some shades (like Supermodel) are one of a kind finds.

Upon the first 15 minutes you have these lippies on yes they feel amazing but it stops there. They slowly start to feel tacky (and in the end they get to the point you almost feel like you’ve put duo eyelash adhesive on your lips) which is good if you want to put some glitter in the center of your lips or get creative with some rhinestones but for day time… not so much. They also feel super, duper drying, even if you’ve used the world’s best Urban Rituelle Lip Balm underneath. I love a good matte lipstick but sadly this isn’t one. Instead of providing that gorgeous matte finish (ala la 1940’s) it makes you look like you need a good coat of lipgloss, stat! The lipsticks didn’t feel comfortable to me and during my days of testing them out I found myself reaching for a face wipe once or twice.
I have super dry, super sensitive lips and these lipsticks ended up not working for me. They dried out my lips further and even caused some cracking in the corners of my mouth. If you are looking for a long lasting lipstick and dryness isn’t a concern for you then these lipsticks might just be your answer.
Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks retail for $25.95 at Priceline, Select Pharmacy’s and most major department stores in Australia. $8.99 in America at most major drugstores. They are currently not available in the UK.
